Callaway Resort & Gardens Unveils Exciting New Exhibit “Toys: The Inside Story” Limited Time Summer Exhibit

June 06, 2024

[Pine Mountain, GA – June 6, 2024] — Callaway Resort & Gardens is thrilled to announce the opening of its latest summer exhibition, “Toys: The Inside Story,” a fascinating exploration into the mechanics behind some of our favorite childhood playthings. This limited time exhibit opens on June 15, 2024, and runs daily through Wednesday, September 4, 2024.

“We’re excited to bring a new summer exhibit to the Callaway Discovery Center with the addition of 'Toys.' This exhibit offers something for the young and young at heart, pulling at the nostalgia of classic toys while providing interactive fun for all ages. It's a delightful new experience for Callaway, available for a limited time only, and we can't wait for our guests to enjoy it.” says Chris Lutz, Callaway Resort & Gardens Vice President & General Manager.

"Toys: The Inside Story" features 12 interactive stations that reveal the simple mechanisms commonly found in toys. From gears and pulleys to linkages, cams, and circuits, the exhibit offers a hands-on opportunity for visitors to create their own toy-like combinations and gain a deeper understanding of how these mechanisms work. One of the highlights of the exhibit is "Jack Gets Out of His Box," which provides a close-up view of the cam combination that allows Jack to spring out of his box.

Additionally, the exhibit showcases the intricate collection of switches, cams, and motors that bring Elmo® to life and make Mr. Machine® operate. The free-form and open-ended nature of many displays, such as "Gears at Play" and the "Jeepers Peepers" pulley challenge, encourages visitors to experiment and discover the effects of gear ratios and pulleys through play. This interactive approach makes the exhibit a fun and educational experience for children and families alike.

Developed by the Montshire Museum of Science in Norwich, VT, with funding from a National Science Foundation grant, "Toys: The Inside Story" is part of the TEAMS (Traveling Exhibits at Museums of Science) initiative, a collaborative effort among seven museums across the country.

"Toys: The Inside Story" will be on display daily at Callaway Gardens in the Discovery Center from June 15, 2024, through September 4, 2024. Members can kick off the festivities early on June 15th during an exclusive member event, featuring the Auburn University Robotics Club. The clubs will be on-site hosting various robot scrimmage matches and informational sessions. Visitors can marvel at the ingenuity and skill on display, participate in robotic races, and navigate maze activations. It’s an exciting opportunity to engage with cutting-edge technology and learn from some of the brightest minds in robotics. Callaway volunteers will also be on site to assist guests in hands on based programming, crafts, and games.

This limited time experience gives guests reason to become a Callaway Gardens Member and enjoy unlimited access to this captivating exhibit while getting a break from the summer heat. Guests can explore the exciting new indoor exhibit as it offers a refreshing change of pace while keeping them entertained and engaged. It’s the perfect way to cool down and enjoy a different side of Callaway during your visit.
